30 Wind - Hydro - Solar Charge Controllers by Flexcharge
We stock charge contollers by SES Flexcharge ( Seelye
Equipment Specialists ) which can be used for wind
generators, hydro generators or photovoltaic systems
as well as a combination of two different power sources.

We also stock Flexcharge PV 7 charge controllers,
lights, timers, diversion loads, battery isolators,
photoswitches and battery monitors.
The links to the left will take you to the items you are looking
for.

All of the Flexcharge charge controllers on this page are suitable for
solar / wind / hydro generation as well as for use with Generators,
Battery Chargers and D.C. Power Supplies / sources.

They are also very quiet audibly, and more importantly in
regards to Radio Frequency Interference and are used
extensively in computer rooms and seismic monitoring
systems.

Many people are setting up hybrid alternative energy sources such as
solar / wind and solar /  hydro to get the most out of their site location.
Whether you have a hybrid or single source of alternative energy these
charge contollers allow you to optimize power production.

When using the following charge controllers, a blocking diode is needed
for each photovoltaic module to prevent night time power draw through
the modules.
A blocking diode also protects photovoltaic modules from voltage spikes
produced by permanent magnet generators such as used in wind and
hydro generators.
The are easy to install in the "J" box (junction box)  on each panel and
we keep them in stock.

All multi-panel solar systems should include diodes to protect the panels
from each other in times of shading, panel breakdown, ground fault
problems and for night time isolation from battery.

These charge controllers utilize diversion charge control.
Once the batteries are fully charged, this allows you to send excess power
to another load such as a water or air heating element.
By doing this,  you are able to use more of the power produced by your
alternative energy source.

A personal comment on this line of charge controllers:

For the selection of diversion loads we stock, please click onto this page

Flexcharge charge controllers have a peak charge efficiency of 99.9%
resulting in a very high yield of power going to your batteries and loads.

These can be used with flooded or sealed (AGM or gel cell) batteries as
well as for use with flooded cell Ni-Cad batteries.

The LED on the front indicates charging, low battery and when the
controller is in the diversion mode.

For information on the Flexcharge charging system please click onto:

This charging method provides for daily micro equalization of the cells
as the battery(s) is reaching full charge and is safe for sealed batteries.

Please look at the pictures closely, these charge controllers can
handle high amperages but you will not see heat sink cooling fins -
they do not require them.
The incoming power is not wasted as heat.

The units are factory sealed which makes them great for any environment.
All come with the manufacturer's five year warranty and are made in the U.S.

We stock the NC 25A in the 12, 24, 36 and 48 volt versions.

All of the Flexcharge controllers are expandable to handle hundreds of
amps when optional external contactors are added.

Flexcharge NCHC series of solar/wind/hydro charge controller.
Flexcharge NCHC series of high performance
industrial grade charge controllers.

These highly efficient controllers are available in 12, 24, 36 and 48 volts,
and in 35, 60 and 100 amp charging currents.
They can be easily expanded in the field to handle up to 1000 amps of
charging current.

When setting up an NCHC for over 100 amps -
Please call us first.

The NCHC uses external mercury contactors for rapid switching to control
charging current.
Ideal for charging lead acid flooded or sealed (AGM or gel cell) batteries as
well as for flooded cell Ni-Cad batteries.
Being one of the most versatile controllers, the NCHC allows you to charge
your battery(s) from photovoltaic modules and / or a wind or hydro generator
as well as most d.c. power sources such as outboard motors, battery
chargers and power supplies.

The controller continually monitors the battery(s) state of charge and allows
full power from your energy source to go into the battery(s).
This offers an excellent charging algorithm and extends battery life.

The NCHC can be ordered in a configuration to match your charging source
type and output.

When used with photovoltaic modules alone, only the charging contactor is
required to disconnect the modules when the battery is fully charged - it will
also cycle open and closed to keep the batteries topped off.
This charging method reduces sulfation and puts less stress on your batteries.
Blocking diodes, which we stock, are required to prevent night time discharge
through your modules.

The picture above shows the NCHC with the divert contactor to the left of the
charging contactor.
The divert contactor is used when the charging source can not be disconnected
from the batteries (or a load) while it is producing power - such as a wind
generator or mini / micro hydro-electric generator.
It can also be used with photovoltaics when you want excess unused power
to go to a heating load.

When the NCHC senses a full charge at the battery(s) it will open the charging
contactor (which disconnects incoming power from the batteries) and closes
the divert contactor which allows incoming power to go to a diversion load
such as a water or air heating element.
The NCHC will cycle back and forth as needed to maintain a high state of
charge in your battery system.

When photovoltaic modules are combined with a wind or water power source,
blocking diodes are required at the modules to both prevent night time
discharge as well as to protect the modules from high voltage spikes which
can be produced by a mechanical charging source.

Some customers who are combining solar and wind use two charging
contactors and one divert contactor.
The wind generator utilizes one charging and one divert contactor.
The solar input utilizes only one charging contactor.
This allows the user to size one charging and one divert contactor for the
wind/hydro generator.
The solar input uses one charging contactor only which is sized to match
its input power.
As the incoming solar input does not need a diversion load, the user
only needs to size the divert load to match the wind/hydro power.
This can represent a large cost savings.

It is also recommended that you place a diode at the wind or water power
source for system protection.

By paralleling additional contactors one NCHC Control Module can handle
thousands of amps of power.

The NCHC can also be used with a power source of up to 120 volts d.c.
This is done by connecting a 48 volt NCHC control module to a portion
of the battery bank (48 volts worth).
By monitoring that section of the battery bank its contactors can control
incoming power.

As many of you know, we use a number of different types of
charge controllers in the systems at our location.
One of the systems uses a Flexcharge model NC30-12L
controller.
This controller uses the same charging method as the
NC25A and NCHC controllers.
The battery bank needs less watering than our other
systems which have Pulse Width Modulation type
charge controllers.
We remotely monitor the system with a TriMetric 2020
and you can see on the TriMetric display how the controller gently
charges the battery bank.
