35 Thin-Lite ballast replacement installation guide
These are some tips to help you replace the ballast in a
Thin-Lite light fixture.
Please wear eye protection when replacing ballasts.
First off, set the fixture on a table with the lens, tubes and
ballast cover removed.
The original ballast is a printed circuit board backed up with
a fiber board insulator and insulating grease. The circuit
board is pop-riveted to the light housing.
The replacement ballast will have at least one wire tie
securing wires to the board - Do Not Remove the wire
Do NOT cut any wires at this stage.
Remove the pop rivets, you can drill the center out and squeeze
one end to pull through the housing and pc board.
Set the ballast along side of the fixture.
The replacement ballast, in all but a few models, comes mounted on an
aluminum strip with stand-offs so you will need to drill two new holes.
Mount the new ballast with pop rivets, sheet metal screws or small bolts
The new ballast Does Not come with tube sockets.
Now, one at a time, cut a wire from the old ballast and splice the
end of the wire coming from the tube socket with the matching
wire on the new ballast.
For splicing you can use crimp-on insulated butt splices / connectors,
wire nuts or solder and insulate the connections.
I prefer insulated butt connectors.
If you solder the connections please be sure to insulate the solder
That is pretty much it.
